2008 Lodge Executive Board Goals

2008 Lodge Planbook

Monaken Lodge Update - July 2008:

Brothers,

Summer is flying by very quickly and I hope each of you are enjoying yours. The Lodge has been very busy this summer and I would like to thank Matt Bumgarner, the OA Camp Chief, at Scout Camp for his work in helping the Lodge and the Council. I would like to thank all Arrowmen for their continued support of Camp Seven Mountains: it is a great place to be and without your support, Camp Seven Mountains wouldn't be possible.

Rimmey Lodge

Monaken Lodge is continuing its support for Rimmey Lodge. Recently announced is the renovations of the parking lot and walkway behind the cabin which will take place from August - September. Service Days will be held prior to the Fall Ordeal and after the Fall Ordeal. We are also continuing to work on the Brick Project in front of the cabin. We will be installing the bricks at one of our service weekends held this year.

Please continue to watch your e-mails and www.monaken.org for service days at Rimmey Lodge.

New Appointments:

Tim Miller, OA Lodge Adviser, has announced his resignation effective September 1, 2008. Tim has served as Nittany Chapter Adviser, Associate Lodge Adviser, and Lodge Adviser for the past 22 years. Scout Executive Jim Kennedy has appointed Joe Strigle has the new Lodge Adviser. Joe currently serves as Membership, Ordeal, and Elangomat Advisers and is a member of Troop 83 and is a member of the Troop Committee.

Please extend our congratulations to Tim Miller for his service to Monaken Lodge and please welcome Joe as he takes on this new position.

High Adventure and ArrowCorps5

Two Arrowmen, Nick Struble and Matt Thorwart, went to ArrowCorps5 this summer. Nick went to George Washington and Jefferson and Matt went to Shasta-Trinty. ArrowCorps5 is the largest service project conducted by the Order of the Arrow since World War 2 with 5,000 Arrowmen doing service at 5 National Parks. Both Matt and Nick enjoyed ArrowCorps5 and had a lot of great times. Check out www.monaken.org in the future for pictures and a story on each of their trips but in the meantime log onto the National ArrowCorps5 site at www.event.oa-bsa.org for more information.

The 2009 Order of the Arrow High Adventure Applications are now available. If you plan on going, it is best to fill out your application now because spots fill up quickly. These programs are available for Arrowmen 14-20 years old. For more information or to get an application, log onto www.adventure.oa-bsa.org.

Fall Ordeal

The next event the Lodge will host is the Annual Fall Ordeal August 22-24, 2008 at Camp Seven Mountains. This is the Lodge's biggest event of the year as Arrowmen from across the Council come out to give cheerful service to the camp. That Sunday, the Lodge will hold its Annual Business Meeting (Open Lodge Meeting). At this meeting, we will be electing the 2008-2009 Monaken Lodge Officers and recognizing the 2007-2008 Lodge Officers. For more information or to register, log onto www.monaken.org.

2009 Dues Renewal

All Arrowmen are encouraged to renew their 2009 dues by the Fall Ordeal August 22-24. If you have paid your 2008 dues, the cost is $10.00 and dues 2007 and prior are $20.00 (one year's back dues and the 2009 dues). By renewing your dues, you are supporting Monaken Lodge and the programs it provides. More than 70% of the fees collected stay with the Lodge and goes to various programs including the newsletter, website, committees, and training. The other 30% goes to the National Order of the Arrow, the Northeast Region OA, and Section NE-4B to provide continual support for the Order of the Arrow and the programs it runs.

Jon Cherry, Monaken Lodge Chief, has challenged the Lodge to get 200 members to renew their dues this summer. As of July 24 we are 1/4 closer to that goal. Encourage all Arrowmen past or present to renew their dues. You can renew your dues at the Boy Scout Resident Camp, Council Office, or at the Fall Ordeal. To find out when your dues where last paid, contact Jon Cherry at chief@oamonaken.org.

Brotherhood 2008 is Here!

All Ordeal members who have had their Ordeal for at least 10 months are highly encouraged to take their Brotherhood at the Fall Ordeal August 22-24. By taking your Brotherhood, you are sealing your membership in the Order of the Arrow. For more information and how to sign up, log onto www.monaken.org/New/Tabs/brotherhood.htm.

Jon Cherry has challenged the Lodge to have 50 Ordeal members take their Brotherhood at the Fall Ordeal. From the strong showing we had at the Spring Ordeal, this number should be easy to achieve. Any questions, please contact Jon Cherry at chief@oamonaken.org.
