Those Arrowmen who demonstrates to fellow Arrowmen that he or she memorializes in his or her everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by founder E. Urner Goodman and co-founder Carroll A. Edson.
At the Spring Ordeal this May, the lodge announced the three youth and three adults who were nominated for the Founder’s Award.
The three youth nominated are:
- Zeb Smoyer
- Bailey Hockenberry
- Dawlton Nelson
The three adults nominated are:
- Dan Swarm

- Bob Rhoads
The biographies for the nominees was released in the summer newsletter which can be found here.
On the Sunday of the Fall Ordeal, the youth and adult present will vote on the one youth and one adult who will receive the Founder’s Award. The recipients will then be announced at the Family Banquet in November.
About the Award
The award is a bronze medallion bearing the images of founder E. Urner Goodman, and co-founder Carroll A. Edson. The reverse of the medallion reads “For he who serves his fellows, is of all his fellows, greatest,” which was Goodman’s prime reason for starting the Order of the Arrow.
Monaken Lodge awards two Founders Awards each year to one Youth and one Adult. It is unique in our Lodge that the youth present at the Fall Ordeal will select the adult recipient while the adults select the youth recipient. Monaken Lodge will present the Founder’s Award to the recipients at the Family Banquet held in November.
