Spring Mills, Pa — Monaken Lodge will once again have a strong presence at the 2015 Juniata Valley Council Boy Scout Summer Camp to celebrate the Order of the Arrow’s 100th Anniversary. Boy Scout Summer Camp runs through July and is held at Seven Mountains Scout Camp.
Call Out Ceremony
Each Friday evening (July 17, 24, and 31) of the Boy Scout Resident Camp, is OA day at camp. All Order of the Arrow members are encouraged to show off their OA pride Fridays by wearing their OA sash and Scout shirt.
At the conclusion of each Friday night camp fire, the Lodge Ceremonies Team will conduct a Call-Out Ceremony to recognize those Scouts and Scouters who were elected to become members of the Order of the Arrow by members of their Troop. Out of Council Units who wish to have a member called out at our camp must provide a letter from their home Lodge authorizing the call out.
Following the Friday night camp fire, all newly Call Out members and all OA members are invited to attend a crackerbarrel and social. This is the opportunity to socialize with fellow OA members and learn about upcoming events. Following the social, there will be an Open Lodge meeting where nominations for lodge officer positions will continue.
Monaken Lodge will host a live auction each Friday (July 17, 24, and 31) beginning at 7:00pm on the Trading Post Porch at Seven Mountains Scout Camp. Items include old scouting memorabilia, mugs, patches, flaps, and more. Proceeds from the auctions continue to benefit the mission of Monaken Lodge. The lodge’s mission is to be an integral part of the Boy Scout program through positive youth leadership and to provide service to the community and Seven Mountains Scout Camp.
The lodge is seeking donations of various Scouting memorabilia for the auction. If you wish to make a contribution, please see Nate Ripka during Scout Camp.
On July 22, the National Order of the Arrow nationwide 100th anniversary tour will make a stop at Seven Mountains Scout Camp. The tour will give current and former OA members, Scout and adult volunteers and Scouting alumni a chance to be a part of the 100th anniversary celebration. The tour stop is free and open to the public.
Some of the program highlights include interactive exhibits, activities such as silk-screening and branding, and challenge games. Participants will have a chance to meet some of the Order’s national leaders, and alumni can learn about the Scouting Alumni Association and local alumni efforts to supporting Scouting in our area.
ArrowTour kicks off at 1:00pm and will conclude with a closing ceremony beginning at 7:30pm. For more information on the ArrowTour program, visit http://monaken.org/arrowtour-announcement/.
Friday, July 31 will mark Vigil Day at camp. The Vigil Honor is the highest honor that can be presented by the Order of the Arrow Lodge to it’s members. Following the conclusion of the OA Call Out Ceremony, the Vigil Committee will then conduct the Vigil Call Out. For more information on the Vigil Honor, please visit the National OA website.
A strong organization like Monaken Lodge relies on it’s members to renew their dues each year. Your dues money goes to support our Lodge committees, programs, and National programs every year. You can renew your dues at Summer Camp with Nate Ripka or at the Council Office. Dues are $10.00 per year, or $20.00 for lapsed members.
