Council-wide Camporee set for May 3-5

Seven Mountains Scout Camp — The Juniata Valley Council will be celebrating the 90th anniversary of the council and the 85th anniversary of Seven Mountains Scout Camp, May 3-5 at Seven Mountains Scout Camp.

The theme of the weekend, “Camp Hollywood, Where Scouts are the Stars!” is a tribute to the early days motion pictures, live radio broadcasts, and the first TV which were all introduced approximately 85 years ago.

During the camporee, scouts will have the opportunity to create, act, or direct their very own photos or short video to share with everyone at the Camporee Academy Awards at the Saturday evening campfire. Awards will be presented for the following categories:

  • Cinematography
  • Best Patrol Cast
  • Best Screen Play
  • Best Comedy
  • Best Documentary
  • Best Instructional Video
  • Best Blooper

The lodge will be having the call out ceremony during the opening campfire beginning at 8:30pm. During the ceremony, the lodge will recognize those scouts who were selected to become members of the Order of the Arrow. Following the ceremony, the lodge will host an ice cream social for members.

Scouts who are selected to become members of the Order of the Arrow are encouraged to take their Ordeal at the Spring Ordeal May 17-19 at Seven Mountains Scout Camp. Details on the Spring Ordeal can be found here.

From 1-3pm on Saturday, the lodge will host a stand near the Trading Post Porch for members to buy patches, bolos, cookbooks, make dues payments, pre-order sweatshirts, and register for the Section Conclave.
