Smoyer and Harrison Receive Founders Award

Centre Hall, Pa — Zeb Smoyer and Brenda Harrison were announced as the 2019Founder’s Award recipients at the Family Banquet in Centre Hall on November 9.

The Founder’s Award was created to honor and recognize those Arrowmen who have given outstanding service to their lodge. Those Arrowmen who demonstrates to fellow Arrowmen that he or she memorializes in his or her everyday life the spirit of achievement as described by founder E. Urner Goodman and co-founder Carroll A. Edson.

The award is a bronze medallion bearing the images of founder E. Urner Goodman, and co-founder Carroll A. Edson. The reverse of the medallion reads “For he who serves his fellows, is of all his fellows, greatest,” which was Goodman’s prime reason for starting the Order of the Arrow.

Zeb Smoyer was selected to become a member of the Order of the Arrow in 2013 and was chosen by his fellow arrowmen to receive the Vigil Honor. Smoyer has served in numerous leadership positions within Nittany Chapter and Monaken Lodge. Most recently, Smoyer served  is First Vice Chief of Monaken Lodge and Section NE-4B Vice Chief.

Brenda Harrison has been involved in the Scouting program since her son joined the Cub Scout program in 2001 and has held various leadership roles within the pack before joining Troop 353 in Howard. Harrison became a member of the Order of the Arrow in 2007 and has received the Vigil Honor in 2017. Harrison continues to hold leadership positions within Nittany Chapter most recently holding the Appointed Chapter Adviser position for Nittany Chapter.

Monaken Lodge awards no more than two Founder’s Awards each year. One to a youth member and the other to an adult member.
