Summer Camping Program Update

Dear Juniata Valley Council, BSA Scouting Family,

First and foremost, we hope that this finds you and your family well. It goes without saying that we are living through an unprecedented and concerning time.

Your safety and the safety of all our members, volunteers, families, and employees is the Juniata Valley Council Boy Scouts of America’s top priority. As such, we have taken a careful and informed approach in evaluating whether to operate summer camp this year.

Since the spread of this pandemic, we have been monitoring the situation daily. We have been consulting with local health professionals, camp professionals, reviewing information from federal and state agencies, as well as working with our council risk management, camping, day camp committees and staff to try to chart the best way forward.

After a thorough review, it is with a heavy heart that we inform you that the Executive Board of the Juniata Valley Council has voted to suspend Cub Scout Day and Family Camps, Webelos Resident Camp, and ScoutsBSA Camp at Seven Mountains Scout Camp for the 2020 summer camp season. In addition, Seven Mountains Scout Camp will remain closed until July 31, 2020.

We know that camping is an important part of every Scout’s summer, and this extremely difficult decision was not made lightly. This is an extraordinarily challenging time; unlike anything we have ever experienced.

This is not the end of our summer programming, however; collaborating with volunteers, neighboring councils, and staff, the Juniata Valley Council is designing a fun, exciting alternative programs that will provide advancement opportunities for our Scouts. More information on these programs will be available soon.

If you have already registered for camp, we have a few options for you:

  • Receive a full refund of all fees paid.
  • Apply a portion of the fees to an alternative summer camping experience this summer and receive a refund for the balance paid.
  • For ScoutsBSA Troops – Use $100 of the fees paid for 2020 to reserve their spot (same week and same campsite) for summer 2021. All remaining charges will be refunded.

Specific refund information will be sent by email to the individual/unit who made the payment the week of June 1 with refunds made on or before June 15, 2020.

We truly appreciate the tremendous amount of planning, research, program development our volunteers and staff have given.  Because of their work, we hope to emerge from this challenging moment stronger than before.

We hope all of our Scouting families stay healthy and positive in our current environment and continue to #ScoutOn!
